Outpatient Clinic for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy

Outpatient Clinic for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy

The Outpatient Clinic for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy is dedicated to providing advice for, as well as diagnosing and treating, patients with mental health problems such as depression, chronic fatigue, anxiety disorders or psychotic symptoms. As a rule, we require a referral letter from a psychiatrist, neurologist or general practitioner. In certain cases, however, we can forego this step following a telephone consultation. In emergency situations, patients can come to us without having had a previous appointment.

The initial focus of our medical consultations is a careful diagnostic assessment of the patient’s symptoms. If necessary, we will carry out additional technical examinations such as laboratory tests, EEG and magnetic resonance imaging of the head. Some patients will be sent on to one of our specialist psychiatric outpatient clinics, e.g., the Neuroendocrinology or Neurology Outpatient Clinic. Afterwards, possible treatment options (medication / psychotherapy, outpatient / day patient / inpatient) are talked over with the patient. We can arrange for subsequent treatment to be carried out at other institutions/ clinics or refer the patient to other physicians. If needed, we can contact the social services available at our clinic. Outpatient treatment is usually offered for the acute phase of an illness; long-term treatment is only available to a limited extent, given our emphasis on affective disorders such as depression. We can also offer consultations in English and Russian.

As part of our personalized medicine service, we can provide therapeutic drug monitoring. If wished for, we can also perform special genetic tests (e.g., ABCB1) on an outpatient basis.

The Psychiatry and Psychotherapy Outpatient Clinic’s other responsibilities include the organization of inpatient admissions and the provision of the consultation service for Munich’s municipal clinic in Schwabing.

During our telephone consultation hours (Mon-Fri 1 pm – 2 pm, Phone: 089-30622-1), patients can speak to a physician about any general questions they may have regarding the treatment options available at our clinic.
