Neurology (Ward 2)

In ward 2 of the hospital, patients with the whole spectrum of neurological diseases are diagnosed and treated. Treatment is done by a well-coordinated team of physicians, nursing staff, physiotherapists and occupational therapists.

With regard to the institute’s scientific orientation, especially patients suffering from inflammatory CNS diseases, movement disorders and endocrinological symptoms are treated – further those suffering from strokes, seizure disorders, syncopes, dementia and different forms of polyneuropathy.

In addition to 18 inpatient beds (8 double rooms, 2 single rooms) with individual sanitary facilities, telephone and TV connection, we have an observation room with four monitor beds for continuously registering ECG, breathing rate, blood pressure and arterial oxygen saturation. A video system allows close observation of these patients from the nurses’ station.

For diagnostics, we have an electrophysiological department with modern equipment at our disposal. Furthermore, our institute disposes of a neuro-radiological department, a liquor laboratory and a neuropsychological department.

In collaboration with the internal-neuroendocrinological department of the institute, a variety of internal examinations are offered. Through longtime cooperation with the hospital München-Schwabing, which is adjoining to the Max Planck Institute of Psychiatry, further radiological and nuclear-medical examinations and conciliar examinations of other fields (e.g., surgery, ophthalmology, etc.) can be guaranteed.

Drug therapy is supported by a wide range of treatment offers in physiotherapy, sports therapy and occupational therapy.

During the inpatient stay already, our psychosocial counselling makes sure that the patients will be adequately treated after having been discharged.

Through close collaboration with special outpatient clinics for inflammatory CNS disorders, movement disorders and neuroendocrinology, further treatment as an outpatient or admittance to a hospital is guaranteed if the condition of a patient suffering from one of those diseases should deteriorate.
