Library

The library of the Max Planck Institute of Psychiatry is a specialized academic library and the Institute’s central information resource. It supports staff in research, clinical practice, and administration with a comprehensive collection of print and electronic media.

Its collection of books and journals primarily covers the fields of neuroscience, psychiatry, and psychology. A special highlight is the Heinrich Laehr Collection. This is a specialized library of historical significance in the field of psychiatry, formerly owned by the Laehr family of Berlin neurologists. It comprises approximately 3,000 works on the history of medicine from the 15th to the 19th century and represents a unique historical collection.

The library’s online catalog lists the entire collection, including the historical holdings. The Journal Database (ZDB) provides a comprehensive overview of printed journals, while electronic journals can be searched via the Electronic Journals Library (EZB).

The library is a reference library and primarily serves to provide literature to the institute’s staff and guests. It is also open to external individuals conducting academic research in the institute’s fields of study. If you would like to use the library as a day visitor, please contact: biblio@psych.mpg.de
