September 10, 2014

Mira Jakovcevski, neuroscientist at the Max Planck Institute of Psychiatry in Munich, has been awarded the NARSAD Young Investigator Award by the Brain and Behavior Research Foundation (BBRF) of New York, USA. The distinction comes with € 45.000 of grant support.

The Young Investigator Award especially supports young scientists at the beginning of their career. Mira Jakovcevski received the grant for her future research on epigenetic mechanisms in stress-related neuropsychiatric diseases. Amongst the 214 awardees of 2014, she is one of the few scientists not performing their research in the USA. In the years before, already several group leaders and postdocs from the Max Planck Institute of Psychiatry received the Award.

Mira Jakovcevski plans to study histone modifications in gene regulation and behavior, investigations she initiated in the lab of Schahram Akbarian at the University of Massachusetts Medical School in the USA. At the Max Planck Institute of Psychiatry, Mira Jakovcevski’s research is conducted within the Department of Stress Neurobiology and Neurogenetics (Alon Chen, Director) in cooperation with the Department of Translational Research in Psychiatry (Elisabeth Binder, Director).
