Outpatient Clinic for Central Nervous System Inflammatory Diseases and Multiple Sclerosis

The focus of our Outpatient Clinic for Inflammatory Diseases is the diagnosis and initiation of immunomodulatory therapies. All methods necessary for diagnosis are available, such as magnetic resonance imaging, cerebrospinal fluid analysis and evoked potentials. Particular attention is given to individualized therapy, by gaining detailed information about our patients and collaborating with their neurologist and general practitioners.

In accordance with current studies and guidelines, glucocorticoids and immunomodulatory substances, such as interferon-ß, glatiramer acetate (formerly known as copolymer-1), teriflunomide, dimethyl fumarate, fingolimod, natalizumab and mitoxantrone, are used for treatment. The effects and side effects of the various therapeutic agents are assessed in clinical and magnetic resonance imaging check-ups. We have several ongoing scientific projects that deal with the genetics of multiple sclerosis and changes in the hormone and cytokine system caused by the disease itself or by therapy. Detailed investigation of these parameters promises optimized  therapy and possible discovery of new therapeutic principles.
