Learning how to sleep
The sleep school is a group program and training method for outpatients and inpatients with insomnia and sleep disorders due to depression. Participation of patients with other psychiatric illnesses can be arranged.
Objectives:
- Knowledge transfer and training on the topic of sleep and sleep disorders
- Learning about and practicing sleep-promoting behaviors
- Improving the quality of sleep
- Eliminating the sleep disorder
- Exchange of experiences between participants
The group program takes place in 4 modules, each with a theoretical and practical component:
- Module 1: Sleep hygiene, light therapy
- Module 2: normal sleep/sleep stages, sleep myths, body functions during sleep, fantasy journey (practical exercise)
- Module 3: vicious cycle of sleep disorders, possible causes of sleep disorders, list of pleasant activities, power napping (practical exercise)
- Module 4: Medication/sleeping pills, alcohol and sleep, herbal preparations, sleep aids
All participants keep a sleep diary. Patients receive suggestions for practical measures or exercises to improve the quality of their sleep.
