Florian Holsboer receives the Wagner-Jauregg Medal
The Austrian Society of Neuropharmacology and Biological Psychiatry (ÖGPB) honors Prof. Dr. Dr. Dr. hc. mult. Florian Holsboer, former Director of the Max Planck Institute of Psychiatry in Munich.
Florian Holsboer studied Chemistry and Medicine at the LMU Munich. After his habilitation at the Psychiatric University Medical Center Mainz, he was appointed Professor of Psychiatry in Freiburg. From 1989 to 2014, he was Director of the Max Planck Institute of Psychiatry in Munich. Afterwards, he became CEO of the pharmaceutical company HMNC GmbH.
Besides numerous awards for his research activities, such as the Anna Monika Prize, the Robert Pfleger Research Award and the Zülich Prize, he now received the Wagner-Jauregg Medal. During the 16th Annual Meeting of the ÖGPB in Vienna, Florian Holsboer will be awarded for his outstanding scientific achievements in Psychopharmacology and Biological Psychiatry.
Wagner-Jauregg Medal
In 2007 on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the ÖGPB, the medal was endowed in memory of Julius Wagner-Jauregg. As first psychiatrist, Julius Wagner-Jauregg received the Nobel Prize in Medicine for his successful treatment of late-state syphilis patients and the discovery of the importance of the malaria vaccination. The laureates are chosen by the ÖGPB’s management board headed by their president.
AN
